Police Facility Design Seminars

Presented by the International Association of Chiefs of Police

The IACP has announced the 2008 schedule for its comprehensive four-day “Planning Design and Construction of Police Facilities” seminar. Jim McClaren will be teaching the seminar. Please plan to attend one of the class offerings this year.

March 3-6: Greeley, Colorado (1 hour northeast of Denver)

June 23-26: Fairfax City, Virginia (DC area)

Sept. 22-25: Wilmington, North Carolina (Gracious, history-rich city on the Cape Fear)

MWL News

MWL is proud to announce the opening of a Chicago regional office in Wheaton, Illinois, and a second Virginia office located in Richmond. 

These offices reflect the addition of new senior architectural staff. In Illinois, Mr. Dean Roberts, AIA and Mr. Pete Crawford, AIA are serving in MWL’s public safety and civic design studios; and Mr. Russell McElroy, AIA who will lead MWL’s new health and life sciences lab services studio in Richmond.

Alaska
MWL has begun the planning for the new Alaska Statewide Forensic Lab in Anchorage.

Arizona
MWL is nearly finished with a comprehensive public safety master plan for the City of Goodyear.  This study identifies the needs of the police and fire departments through the year 2030.

California
McClaren, Wilson and Lawrie recently completed the space needs assessment for the San Diego Harbor Police.

The Port of Los Angeles Police Headquarters facility has begun construction.

The 93,000 square foot Santa Clara County Forensic Science Center in San Jose is in final punchlisting.

The police substation for the City of Rancho Cucamonga and San Bernardino County is nearing completion of design.

The police headquarters for Indio is moving into detail design phases.

The El Cajon Poice Headquarters will go out for bids in the summer of ’08.

The EOC for Riverside County was dedicated in April 2008.

Colorado
MWL is serving as technical advisor to the Town of Parker, Colorado, for its new police headquarters.

Illinois
McClaren, Wilson and Lawrie, Inc. recently completed the space needs consultant for the Village of Oswego.

Cicero’s police station and town all are nearing completion.

We are presently working on site feasibility efforts for Arlington Heights.

MWL will serve as the technical planning advisor to the Village of North Aurora for its new police station.

The $61,500,000 Aurora Police Headquarters / Branch Courts is completing construction and has successfully bid nearly all of its complex bid packages.  The project is on time and on budget.

Indiana
MWL conducted the space needs assessment and designed the recently completed full-service forensic laboratory for the Indiana State Police located in Indianapolis.

Maryland
A 120,000 square foot forensic center is being designed by MWL to serve the entire state of Maryland.

MWL and a local architect have completed the design of the new Howard County Public Safety Training Center.  Phase 1 construction is complete and includes administration offices, classrooms, a multipurpose room, and fitness facility. The construction of Phases 2 and 3 are well under way and include a tactical village, fire field and props, EVOC, police simulation training facility, and fire simulation training facility. 

MWL is currently working on the needs assessment and design of Harford County’s new 911 communications center, EOC, and hazmat response facilities.

Nevada
MWL recently completed the space needs assessment for a new police station for Mesquite. 

MWL has recently been selected for two new facilities: The EOC for Las Vegas and the new substation for North Las Vegas. 

New York
Planning is underway by MWL for the Monroe County forensic Lab in Rochester. The new facility will be 46,000 square feet.

Oklahoma
We are pleased to announce the construction of the 85,000 square foot forensic science laboratory, for the Oklahoma State Bureau of investigation in Edmond, has been completed. Go to http://www.tourosbi.com to view a virtual tour of this state-of-the-art facility.

MWL and a local architect have completed a needs assessment for the City of Edmond police, central communications, and municipal court. Several site studies have also been completed for the police and central communications facility.  MWL is slated to begin the design of this project in the summer of 2008.

Tennessee
MWL is currently involved in an expansion plan for the Memphis Tennessee Bureau of Investigation forensic lab.

The Police Headquarters for Franklin Tennessee bid on budget and now begins construction.

Texas
The Southwest Institute of Forensic Science (SWIFS) is well under construction in Dallas. This 112,000 square foot facility will replace the well regarded, but aging, medical examiner and forensic science labs presently on the campus of the Parkland Hospital.

The Southlake Department of Public Safety Headquarters and Municipal Courts facility is under construction, with anticipated completion in late 2009.  This new facility was designed to accommodate the long-term needs of Southlake and fit into the “turn-of-the-century” character of Southlake’s downtown Town Square.

 The Garland DPS Forensic Lab is well under construction. This is the first of four DPS forensic lab projects that has been awarded to MWL. Work will soon begin on the planning and design for DPS forensic labs in Houston, El Paso, and Lubbock.

Utah
The pre-design for a police station and city hall for Hurricane and a police & courts facility for Layton has been completed.   Each project is seeking suitable sites.

Vermont
MWL is designing a 35,000 square foot forensic laboratory for the Vermont Department of Public Safety.

Virginia
MWL will soon commence the comprehensive space needs assessment for a new police headquarters in Chesterfield County.

West Virginia
In Morgantown, the 50,000 square foot academic forensic lab for West Virginia University has been completed.
