Police Facility Design SeminarsPresented by the International Association of Chiefs of PoliceThe IACP has announced its first 2009 seminar for its comprehensive four-day "Planning Design and Construction of Police Facilities" seminar. This project will include police administration, in-service training, district police station, district fire station, and secure and structured parking. Bids have been received for the new police headquarters in El Cajon. MWL is proud to announce the project bid spread was less than 2%, high to low. The low bid was 17% below the owner's estimate. This is indicative of the highly competitive marketplace presently available to cities and counties. MWL's Phoenix office is pleased to have joined Highland Partnership's design build team in the planning of the new LEED® Silver police headquarters for the City of Irvine at the new Great Park. The LEED® Gold Los Angeles Port Police Headquarters is nearing the mid-point of construction. District of ColumiaMWL recently completed preliminary design assistance on a new property and evidence facility and District 1 substation for the Metropolitan Police. IllinoisPhase 1 of the new Aurora LEED® Gold Police Headquarters and Branch Courts will dedicate March 20-22. The first phase of the 191,000 square foot project includes a 10-point tactical firearms proficiency range, 500-car parking structure, evidence warehouse, and latent print laboratory. MWL recently joined with the Village of Montgomery in dedicating the Village's new Village Hall. MWL also completed the police faciity prior to this commission. MWL has been retained to serve as technical consulting architect for the Village of North Aurora's new police facility to be located along Route 31. MarylandMWL joined with Edmeades Stromdahl LTD to win the renovation/relocation of an existing facility for a new Montgomery County police, fire, and homeland security agencies headquarters of more than 400,000 square feet. New YorkMWL was selected to serve as part of an international peer review team for the new multi-billion dollar NYPD Police Training Academy. VirginiaMWL has joined with Mosely Architects of Richmond in the master planning of a new police & fire headquarters, EOC, and regional communications center for Chesterfield County.
